Understanding the Importance of the Quran
Allah Almighty says in the Quran:
“[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.”
(Surah Suad 38:29)

This means that mere recitation is not sufficient; rather, pondering over its meanings is necessary. Tafseer is crucial to comprehending the true purpose of the Quran.

The Right Way to Understand the Quran
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself explained the meanings of the Quran and taught its tafseer to his companions. Once, when Abdullah bin Mas’ood (RA) was asked how he understood the Quran, he replied:

“Consider what is halal as halal, what is haram as haram, adopt what is commanded, and avoid what is forbidden.”
(Tafseer Ibn Kathir)

This means that the Quran is not just a book but a complete system for life.

The Need and Importance of Tafseer
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The best among you is the one who learns the Quran and teaches it.”
(Bukhari, Hadith 5027)

This hadith clearly emphasizes that recitation alone is not enough; understanding and conveying the message of the Quran are also essential. Without tafseer, one cannot fully grasp the Quran’s message.

The True Purpose of the Quran
Allah Almighty states:
“Then do they not reflect upon the Quran, or are there locks upon their hearts?”
(Surah Muhammad 47:24)

If we limit ourselves to mere recitation without understanding its meaning, we may miss the true essence of the Quran. This is why tafseer is so important.

What Will Be Learned in This Course?

  1. Translation and tafseer of different Surahs and verses of the Quran.

  2. Teachings of Islam based on the Quran and Hadith.

  3. Understanding Quranic injunctions and how to implement them.

A Sample Verse and Its Tafseer
Allah Almighty says:
“Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.”
(Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:11)

This verse teaches us that mere supplication or passive hope is not enough; rather, people must strive and work to change their own conditions. Through tafseer, we understand that Islam is not just a religion of worship but also a complete code of life.

The aim of this course is to encourage individuals to go beyond mere recitation and strive to understand the true teachings of the Quran. Gaining knowledge of tafseer in the light of the Quran and Sunnah is an intellectual and spiritual necessity for every Muslim. Through this course, students will be able to deeply comprehend the Quran’s true essence and align their lives with its teachings.

May Allah grant us the ability to understand the true message of the Quran. Ameen!
